While we are in the business of designing, manufacturing and distributing Australian swimwear and apparel to the world, the supply chain and operation of our business is consciously managed to ensure it respects everyone involved in the process, including our workers, suppliers and customers, whilst doing everything possible to minimise the impact of our business on the environment.
We acknowledge that fashion is the second-most polluting industry in the world after mining and we consciously choose to play a role in addressing this.

We are a certified B Corporation. Certifying as a B Corporation goes beyond product- or service-level certification. B Corp Certification is the only certification that measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance. The B Impact Assessment evaluated how our company’s operations and business model impacts out workers, community, environment, and customers. From our supply chain and input materials to our charitable giving and employee benefits, B Corp Certification proves our business is meeting the highest standards of verified performance.

Making the highest quality products that withstand the test of time is at the heart of our design philosophy. We believe it is better for the environment and our lives as human beings, to encourage women to build their wardrobes with better quality pieces in silhouettes that endure.  As a result, we are very considered in choosing the highest-quality fabrics and trims available, ensuring expert craftsmanship from our makers and the timelessness of our designs.

We only use fabrics that are sustainably made, but they must also be of superior quality.  If rinsed after use, our Sculpteur™ fabric will last up to 10 times longer than average swimwear fabrics. The Japanese Linen we use is remarkably soft, fluid and crease resistant.

The Environmental Product Declaration (EDP) is a certification that analyses and quantifies the environmental impact of a product’s life cycle including consumption of raw materials including chemicals, water and energy, the waste produced and the emissions of the mill that makes it. The EPD Analysis then converts all these impacts into a single measure called The Global Warming Potential, or Carbon Footprint and expresses it as a kilogram of CO2 (carbon dioxide) for every square metre of fabric produced.

Our primary swimwear base cloth, Sculpteur™ has a very low Carbon Footprint of 2.14, which is up to 10 times lower than fabrics made from recycled plastics. The Global Warming Potential of recycled plastic is significantly higher due to the intensive temperatures, water usage and chemicals required to transform old plastic into polyester thread. We acknowledge the benefit of using recycled plastic to minimise virgin polyester being put into the supply chain.  Our judgement at this point is to choose a fabric that produces a 10th of the CO2 in its production.  We are in discussions with a number of suppliers looking for new eco-fibre and plastic recycling technologies that will offer a better solution, if one arises.

All fabrics used by BONDI BORN are also OEKO-TEX Certified which means they do not release any harmful substances that can be hazardous to people's health such as pesticides, heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic amines or allergising colourants. The requirements and thresholds of this certification are constantly updated based on the latest medical-scientific studies.

With the introduction of apparel in 2019, we are committed to sourcing fabrics from ethical and EDP certified mills in Italy and Japan with a focus on sustainably produced natural fibres like linen, cotton, lyocell and rayon (made from tree pulp from tree farms).

All BONDI BORN packaging is consciously chosen to be plastic free and 100% recyclable or compostable, inclusive of swing tags, satchels, and hygiene labels.

Because of our commitment to quality, ethics and sustainability, every BONDI BORN garment is made here in Sydney by businesses that we work side by side with, and have built long-term relationships with, because they are the best at what they do.  Like ourselves, our swimwear maker and apparel maker also happen to be owned and operated almost exclusively by women and operate with the highest of values and ethics.

In 2020 we became a 1% for the Planet member, committing to donate at least 1% of our annual sales to environmental related nonprofits.  Our primary nonprofit partner is One Tree Planted, whose goal is to plant 15 million trees around the world to help fight climate change and reduce carbon in the atmosphere. For every order we receive online, we plant a tree through One Tree Planted.

As we grow as a business we will continue to find ways to give back the people and the planet on our journey.  We welcome your feedback and suggestions.  Please email at any time.
